Ask a Stylist: How to Wear Colour
When it comes to colour, I always say the same thing. It has the power to completely lift your outfit and your mood. Whether you are walking into a meeting, heading out for coffee with friends, or just getting dressed for the day, the right colour can bring a little brightness to even the simplest of looks.
If your wardrobe leans heavily towards neutrals and the idea of wearing colour feels slightly daunting, you are not alone. But it does not have to feel dramatic or out of character. A small change can make a big difference, and experimenting with colour can actually be a lot of fun.
Start with a Colour You Already Love
Blue and yellow are especially lovely for spring. At TBCo, we are also big fans of pink and green. One of my favourite pairings from our current collection is lilac and olive. It feels fresh and versatile. The kind of combination that still works beautifully with denim and classic white pieces but adds something a little more interesting.
Choose Your Colour Mood: Bold or Balanced
If your style is a little more pared back, focus on complementary shades. These are tones that sit close to each other on the colour wheel, like lilac with sage, or soft blue with grey. They create a subtle shift from your usual neutrals without feeling like too much.
The Most Important Rule is to Enjoy It
There is no right or wrong way to wear colour. The key is to choose pieces that feel like you, and to enjoy the process of finding what works.
